A few weeks ago, I wrote about feeling overwhelmed and stressed. The kind of stressed where you know things need your attention, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get caught up.
This past weekend wasn’t anything spectacular, but honestly, it was exactly what I needed.
Saturday, I headed to a festival with some friends and their littles. The weather was humid, yet cool, the sky was gray, and I don’t think we saw any sunshine all day.
But it didn’t matter.
There’s something fun about seeing things through the eyes of little kids. They get excited about things most of us adults walk right past. They notice things. They stop. They explore. They make a big deal out of the little things.
We spent the day wandering around, looking at vendors, enjoying the festival, and just being together. No agenda. No rushing from one obligation to the next. No worrying about what needed to be done at home.
Just enjoying the day. And I needed that.
One of the best parts was lunch at Hillbilly Hideaway. If you’ve never been, let’s just say you won’t leave hungry. There’s something comforting about sitting down to a good meal after you’ve wandered around all morning.
No rushing.
No multitasking.
Just food and conversation.
Sunday was our church picnic, and it was another reminder of how much I enjoy simple things these days. Good food, familiar faces, and time spent with people who make life richer.
But perhaps my biggest accomplishment of the weekend wouldn’t look like much to anyone else. I finally got caught up on some personal life stuff that’s been hanging over my head.
You know the kind.
The little tasks you keep pushing to tomorrow because work, responsibilities, and life keep getting in the way. None of them are particularly difficult, but when enough of them pile up, they start taking up space in your head.
By Sunday evening, I felt something I haven’t felt in a while.
Caught up.
Well… mostly.
The calendar is already looking full this week, and I know it’s going to be busy. There will be emails, responsibilities, appointments, work, horses, and all the other things that make up everyday life.
But for the first time in a while, I don’t feel like I’m starting the week ten steps behind.
And maybe that’s the lesson I’m learning in this season of life.
Life doesn’t always need big adventures or picture-perfect weekends to be good.
Sometimes it’s a day at a festival with friends. A meal you didn’t have to rush through. A church picnic. A few laughs. A little time outside your normal routine.
And sometimes it’s simply finally crossing a few things off your own list.
Nothing spectacular.
Nothing Instagram-worthy.
Just a pretty good weekend.
And for this country girl trying to juggle work, horses, home, and everything in between…..
I’ll take it.
In fact, I’ll call that a win.
