Spend enough time around a barn and you’ll notice something: where there are horses, there are usually dogs.
They’re stretched out in the aisle while stalls are being cleaned, riding shotgun on the way to a horse show, or supervising every farm project as if they own the place.
That’s certainly true at my house.
Scooby has been my shadow through countless ordinary days—the kind of days that end up becoming life’s most meaningful memories. He’s greeted me after long days at work, followed me around the barn, and reminded me more than once that a walk is sometimes better therapy than worrying.
Dogs have a way of loving us that feels rare these days. They don’t care about job titles, bank accounts, relationship status, or whether we’ve had a good day or a terrible one. They just know we’re their person.
Scooby has taught me to slow down and pay attention to the little things. A sunset over the pasture. A quiet evening on the porch. The simple joy of being outside with nowhere important to be.
He’s also made me laugh more times than I can count. Whether he’s carrying sticks into the house like prized treasures, wedging himself into the small space between my lap and the arm of a chair, or giving me a look that suggests I’m the one making questionable decisions, life is simply better with him in it.
The truth is, dogs leave us better than they found us. They teach loyalty, patience, joy, and unconditional love without ever saying a word.
And if you’ve been lucky enough to have a dog like Scooby, you know they were never “just a dog.” They’re a companion through life’s changing seasons, a keeper of your secrets, and a piece of your heart you’ll carry forever.
That’s why I think every girl needs a Scooby.
Not because every dog is the same, but because everyone deserves a friend who loves them exactly as they are.
